    PASSIVE VENTILATION

    Our most basic vent style, passive vents allow a steady flow of air in and out of your chemical storage building with no mechanical assistance. Passive ventilation is best used with chemicals that do not produce hazardous vapors or debris. Passive air vents are available with 3-hour fire damper and can be screened or louvered to reduce sun exposure.

    EXPLOSION PROOF MECHANICAL VENTILATION

    Explosion proof forced ventilation is necessary for chemicals that produce flammable, explosive, or noxious fumes. Forced ventilation is also important for storage buildings that will be used for mixing and dispensing chemicals.

    These mechanical vents are designed to perform a minimum of 6 air changes per hour at a rate not less than 1 cubic foot/min. The mixing and dispensing process can produce large amounts of hazardous fumes, smoke, and dust — mechanically forced ventilation is absolutely necessary to maintain safety for workers and the environment.

    The explosion proof mechanical vent isolates the motor of the ventilation system from contaminants in the building to prevent an explosion in the event of mechanical failure.

    LIGHT DUTY, NON-EXPLOSION PROOF MECHANICAL VENTILATION

    US Chemical’s light duty vent has a 3 speed dial controller to select the amount of air being moved. At minimum the light duty ventilation system perform a minimum of 6 air changes per hour at a rate not less than 1 cubic foot/min.

    The light duty non-explosion proof mechanical vent is designed for use in chemical storage buildings with non-explosive or non-flammable chemicals that produce non-hazardous, nuisance vapors.

    CLASS B EXPLOSION PROOF MECHANICAL VENT

    The Class B Explosion Proof Mechanical Vent is designed to be used with class B chemicals: flammable liquids, oils, greases, tars, oil-based paints and flammable gases. Our Class B mechanical vent will perform a minimum of 6 air changes per hour at a rate not less than 1 cubic foot/min.

    The Class B vent is also explosion proof, meaning that the motor of the ventilation system is isolated from any contaminant in the chemical storage building, preventing an explosion if mechanical failure were to occur.

    STANDARD LOW LEVEL VENTILATION SYSTEM

    LOW LEVEL NATURAL AIR IN-LET

    Two low level Natural Air in-let vents with exterior louver and interior screen are standard on chemical storage buildings. A 1 ½ or 3 hour UL rated Fire Damper, depending on building fire rating, with a 165 degree fusible link is provided for Fire Rated Chemical Storage Buildings.



    OPTIONAL LOW LEVEL VENTILATION SYSTEM

    EXPLOSION PROOF EXHAUST FAN #1

    The optional low level ventilation system available for our chemical storage buildings is the Explosion Proof Exhaust Fan #1. If required by your company or AHJ this system provides six (6) air changes per hour.

    This system has a non-static and non-sparking 12" diameter cast aluminum fan blade, 1050 CFM @ 0.0" SP. The exterior exhaust fan housing is constructed of steel, epoxy coated with an exterior polyurethane finish.

    The interior exhaust vent is located within 12" of the floor for the extraction of heavier than air vapors.

    The exterior exhaust fan port opening is protected with a UL Classified fire damper. This fire damper has a galvanized steel frame, curtain type galvanized steel blades and a UL listed 165 degrees F fusible link. The exterior exhaust port is equipped with a shutter assembly and the full system is activated by an exterior, UL listed fan switch as well as an automatic system shutdown if fire occurs.

    EP Exhaust Fan #1 Features

    Explosion proof exterior mount exhaust ventilation and fume removal system motor features:

    • UL listed
    • Totally enclosed
    • Explosion proof
    • 1/4 HP 1725 RPM
    • 115VAC, 4.5amp, 60Hz
    • Single phase
    • Rated for Class 1 Group D, Division 1, Hazardous Locations
    • Unit is housed inside an exterior wall enclosure.



    OPTIONAL FUME SNORKEL EXTRACTOR ARM

    The optional Fume Snorkel Extractor Arm consists of an anti-static explosion proof exhaust fan with a three joint telescopic extractor arm. The exhaust fan is mounted on roof for this system. The telescopic extractor arm attaches to the side of the ceiling column approximately 12 inches from the ceiling. A reducer is used to attach the arm to the main duct.

    The vent opening is protected by 1 ½ or 3 hour fire rated damper as needed for the scope of work being performed inside the chemical storage building. The flat screen hood is made of conductive polypropylene and is recommended for heavy gases and fumes.

    A handle is placed on lower portion of extractor arm for easy use. The arm ranges approximately 3.5 ft. – 7 ft horizontally and vertically

    Color choices are powder-coated black or white. Acid proof stainless steel available upon request.



    OPTIONAL DUAL HIGH LEVEL EXPLOSION PROOF EXHAUST SYSTEM

    Optional Dual High Level Explosion Proof Exhaust System is available as an option for elimination of lighter than air hazardous vapors or hot air accumulation at the ceiling. This system has exhaust fans and / or vents installed at ceiling height and on opposite ends of the storage building similar to the low level vent system as described above.

    A thermostat and/or gas sensor will be installed at ceiling level to detect hot air or hazardous gases.

    When a dual upper and lower ventilation/ exhaust system is used, the upper system shall operate at 70 percent and the lower at 30 percent. Air changes will be increased by 75 percent.

    A dry contact NEMA 4X box provides a connection for alarm(s) (red for heat and amber for gas built up) on the roof and any remote monitoring need.
