MODULAR CHEMICAL STORAGE
(for oversized or extra wide building solutions)

Modular Hazardous Materials Storage Buildings are utilized when an there is a need for a larger than pre-fab (14' x 62') unit; where multiple stand alone buildings are not a reasonable alternative. Pre Fab Chemical Storage Buildings are limited to what can be shipped via Flat-Bed Tractor Trailer. When an oversized or over-width building is required, US Chemical Storage manufactures the building in "modular components" that are assembled on site.

At US Chemical Storage, we manufacture modular, prefabricated storage buildings - like these - and design/build solutions to help you achieve compliance with complex safety and environmental regulations, and to guard against potential fires and explosions.

Only US Chemical Storage can bring you this complete package to achieve a cost effective solution: factory direct manufacturing, custom engineered buildings and enclosures, guaranteed permitting approval, turnkey site installation, and Group H Occupancy Permit.

There are associated cost savings for an owner, as modular units do not require redundant accessories packages, which would otherwise be used in equipping numerous buildings at the same site. On the other hand, the modular hazmat buildings will have installation costs that the pre-fabricated chemical storage buildings do not have. Due to constraints of land transportation (width and length) the modular sections are shipped in sections and erected by means of a rigging process and bolted together, when delivered. The sections may be shipped in individual units not to exceed 14’- 0” in width and 62’- 0” long.

These units utilize the same construction details, as our standard chemical storage buildings (CHEMloc, FIREloc, and SUPERloc) and are designed with the manufacturer’s standard practices, which are based on pertinent procedures and recommendations for fabrication and of the following organizations and codes: American Institute of Steel Construction, “Specification for the design, fabrication and erecting of structural steel for buildings”; American Iron and Steel Institute, “Specification for the design of cold formed steel structural members”; American Welding Society, “Structural Welding code” AWS D1.1; Building Codes for the state, municipality or jurisdiction area. Factory Mutual Global, which requires a UL Listed and Approved Wall Design specification, as well as Warnock Hersey.

All accessories packages and the building complies with NFPA for such items as dry chemical fire extinguishing systems, flammable & combustible liquid code, fire alarm code, fire doors and windows and UL fire tests for door assemblies. UL fire ratings and construction details are adhered to for: 2 hour uni- directional (U425), 2 hour bi-directional (U490) and 4 hour bi-directional (490) assemblies. Non combustible and explosion proof construction are also offered for modular chemical storage buildings. With these construction details, an owner may choose to place a common divider (partition) wall in a unit and have explosion proof construction on one side and a 2 or 4 hour fire rating on the other unit side.

General Arrangement and Submittal Drawings are furnished with an engineer’s seal prior to submittal to the owner/end-user, architect or engineer. Third Party and State Approvals available in all 50 states and territories.

Fire Rated Units will be supplied with the appropriate Fire Shield™ Gypsum Board and Mineral Rock Wood to meet or exceed UL Listed wall design specifications.

GENERAL BUILDING, CONSTRUCTION, AND PERFORMANCE

Standard Features Modular Hazardous Materials Storage Buildings are utilized when an owner/end-user requests a larger square-footage unit to be placed in a small footprint site area, where multiple stand alone buildings are not a reasonable alternative. Two or more units are shipped to the site area and erected by means of a rigging process and bolted together, for a complete installation. Modular construction may be utilized for any of our outdoor units. The portfolio includes Turfloc, Fireloc (Uni-directional and Bi-directional two hour fire rating), Superloc (Bi-directional four hour fire rating), Drumloc, Chemloc and Magloc (for both ATF and Military standards). Explosion and non-explosion proof construction is offered as directed by codes/regulations or owner requests. Due to transportation constraints, units are not to exceed 14’- 0" in width and 62’- 00" in length.

Each modular quotation is catered to the customers needs and the series construction as mentioned above. Particular attention is addressed to the accessories package as listed below. Where units have specific fire ratings or explosion proof designs, the factory installs these accessories to exacting specification and code requirements. This value-added service insures the owner/end-user that their unit is compliant and saves any outsourcing after the factory installation of the modular units has been installed.

The specification listed below is for the modular Chemloc series, with non-combustible and a non-fire rated construction. Please consult with the factory for specific specification requirements.

General Arrangement and Submittal Drawings are furnished with an engineer’s seal prior to submittal to the owner/end-user, architect or engineer. Third party and State Approvals are available in all 50 states and territories.
The Steel used to fabricate the model quoted here is the highest-grade American made steel and is free from rough edges, kinks, and sharp bends. Our manufacturing does not reduce the strength of the steel to a value less than intended by the UL design. Our manufacturing is done in a neat and precise fashion, while all bends are made by controlled means to ensure uniformity and strength. Our welding procedures are in accordance with the American Welding Society and meet standards set forth by the ASTM, and all welds are sufficient in size and shape to accommodate UL listed wall designs.

The Modular Prefabricated Locker has non-combustible weatherproof construction with welded exterior 12-gauge steel panels and 10-gauge sump for maximum durability and strength. Wall studs are 3-1/2" by 2" for superior strength, manufactured from 12-gauge steel and producing a 3-1/2" wall cavity ready to accept standard insulation if required. Continuously welded roof and sump sections provide added rigidity in transit and use.
The Roof and Ceiling have the same non-combustible weatherproof construction as building walls. It is continuously welded 12-gauge steel roof permanently attached to building and comes equipped with a rain shield over door. At the roof apex, on each unit, is C8x11.5 structural channel, with ¼"steel gussets is welded full length on the unit. The two adjoining units are pulled together at the roofline, with 5/8" A307 structural bolts 24" on center and double bolted at the ends.

The Secondary Spill Containment Sump is built in 7" deep leak-tight secondary containment sump, which surpasses FM spill containment requirements. Sumps start at 7" deep and may be increased in one-inch incremental depths to meet additional EPA requirements or other regulations. Heavy-duty construction utilizes 10-gauge steel for superior structural support. Removable galvanized steel floor grating rated 500psf for heavy drum/pallet loads. Structural steel floor supports are easily removed for clean up of spills within the sump. Each individual unit contains it’s own sump unless otherwise specified. Adjoining sumps are stitch welded together and covered with a hat channel.

The Building Base has open channel construction for under-sump inspection. The steel C-channels and hold down brackets are provided for ease of offloading and securing to site.
